The Stuff Project at Disability Direct is looking for disabled volunteers aged 16-25 to join their Youth Forum in Derby.
By joining the youth forum you can be involved in shaping the project and by sharing your views and experiences you can help other local young disabled people.
“Being involved with The Stuff has helped me grow in self-confidence and help me accept my disability can be a positive part of who I am. Coming to meetings is often not about needs but about talking to friends with similar experiences and understanding.” – Youth forum volunteer
If you are passionate about making positive changes for disabled people and want your voice to be heard then taking this is a great way to get involved. You will make new friends, share your voice, have fun and make a difference.
The friendly group meets once a month, on a Wednesday evening in Derby and share a pizza before getting the meeting starts. This gives us a chance to get to know each other really well and catch up with what has been going on since we last got together. Then we do different things each month – sometimes we have a guest speaker in, like someone from the Job Centre so we can find out information, sometimes we have an organisation come to talk to use to ask our experiences and sometimes we work on ideas for the project like designing logos and leaflets and developing workshops.
“Through the project I have met great people, made new friends and done things that I never imagined I would try. I have learned new skills and information and feel that information and activities are what people can enjoy rather than what is available for them as disabled people.” – Youth forum volunteer
